Painting Paradise's owner Marionette is a natural teacher. She loves and embraces all types and levels of artistic talent, and it shows in her teaching style. This was evident immediately upon my husband entering her art studio for a pastel painting class. Marionette's easy-going manner and comfortable studio atmosphere immediately puts you at ease. The class was small, and it was evident there were participants of all levels.
Al was always analytical & "left-brained" by nature; the aftermath of a stroke pushed him to discover his "right-brain" creative side. Marionette skillfully presented painting techniques and focused students toward expanding their horizons. By the end of the class, several beautiful art pieces had been created, including a colorful Hawaiian landscape by Al. This became his first portfolio artwork.
Today, almost two years after that class, I am pleased to say Al is participating in his first gallery showing! This would have never happened without Marionette's expert and confidence-building style. We highly recommend you allow Marionette to take you under her wing... whether it is for a one-time class while vacationing on Kauai or as a series of skill-building classes while on island.
Artist Marionette is an encouraging instructor if you have never picked up a brush pastel, or just a great muse for those of you with an art background who would like to take some of their own art home rather than buy it. so if you are a part time artist or never painted in your life she is the one to work with. all of the supplies are provided and many times the location for painting is as beautiful as her art, so weather you take a class or buy her art you will not be disappointed. I have taken classes from Marionette for the past three years I have returned to Kauai. My husband and I have taken her watercolor, pastel and acrylic classes. For my granddaughter's birthday I treated her to a private Marionette silk painting instruction. I am an experienced artist myself but especially love Marionette's watercolor classes. She teaches in a patient, gentle and loving way encouraging the artist in each of us while giving us the direction and tools we need to create a successful painting. Unlike some teachers who direct the class to paint a particular subject in a specific style she may demonstrate painting an image of her own but asks each individual to choose their own image from a selection of colored photos. With that start she helps each individual in the class evolve in their own way while learning about color choices and mixing to create a satisfying painting.
Marionette's watercolor class at Mokihana was my first...I was anxious(as I always thought I wasn't cre8ve or any good at painting) and she put me at ease, immediately, with her warmth and one-on-one instruction(as she walks through the class to make sure evy1 is getting a positive experience)...She demonstr8s how to transfer a photo on watercolor paper, supplies all the materials you need(down to the brushes, higher-end paints and paper!) and gives little tips on different painting styles(she demonstr8d different ways to paint clouds, in this particular class, and it's still one of my fave things to paint!) to make this a joyful experience! You walk away with at least one finished painting showing the beauty of the Garden Isle for a lifetime of memories...
