Our Mission: Boys & Girls Club of Kauai inspires young people to become responsible citizens. Our role is to create a safe place for kids to grow, provide mentoring by a professionally-trained staff and caring volunteers, nurture character development and life-enhancing skills, and provide hope and opportunity. What: Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii (BGCH) is a non-profit organization dedicated to engaging and enriching Hawaii's youth. BGCH currently operates 3 sites on Kauai, where BGCH members can access a multitude of programs and services at no charge. BGCH's clubhouses and outreach sites provide guidance-oriented character development programs for children 7-17 years old. Annual membership is $1. BGCH is a subsidiary of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and has been operating in Hawaii since 1976, and on Kauai since 1993. The organization provides services to 12,000 Hawaii youth each year, many from disadvantaged circumstances. More than 4,000 youth members and other youth were served through programs on Kauai in 2010. Programs include: Helping Kauai's boys and girls become responsible citizens and experience the Education and Career Development Encouraging youth to foster aspirations for the future, providing them with opportunities for career exploration and educational enhancement. Health and Life Skills Facilitating the achievement and maintenance of a healthy, active lifestyle. Programs specifically address today’s critical issues including resisting violence, drug abuse, obesity, and teen pregnancy. Arts & Culture Recognizing and encouraging self-expression, developing multicultural appreciation, and gaining and stimulating creative skills. Developing fitness Promoting positive use of leisure time, reducing stress, instilling an appreciation for the environment, and building positive social skills.
BGCH-Kauai programs and services are delivered in the Central, East Programs in the Central District are offered at Wilcox Elementary School, Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School and Lihue CourtTownhomes.
